It's not always easy being a teenager in a town of less than 2,000 people. I can remember looking out my bedroom window and wondering if ANYTHING would ever HAPPEN to ME!!! (Please read the preceding line with the appropriate level of teen drama.) I especially struggled with New Year's Eve. There Dick Clark and company were, rockin' the night away and counting down the ball drop at Times Square, and here I was, in my rural Alabama living room, watching it on TV. I didn't want to see Times Square on TV. I wanted to be there!! I did eventually get there (though not on New Year's Eve). I got there before Mayor Giuliani cleaned up the town, and somebody's purse got snatched outside the coffee shop where my friend Anne and I were buying doughnuts, the only NYC breakfast we could afford at the time. Still, Times Square was a sight to behold. But I don't want to be there tonight. I want to be home with Dave. The moral of this story? There are many downsides to getting older, but there are upsides, too. I no longer wonder if anything wll ever happen to me because some pretty great stuff HAS happened to me—even in just the past year. And I'm very thankful for that.
Even so, should the opportunity to meet Dick Clark ever present itself . . .

So many wonderful things to come, as well!
Why can't I see the picture at the end of the post? Dang!

Age and Experience do have benefits. Would you believe the oldest nephew was there in the mix Sat. night? He wanted to do it while he was still "young." 'Said it was great but I can't imagine standing there for 15 hrs. before the show. Ah, youth.
We had donuts? How do you remember this stuff?
Happy 2012!

You couldn't pay me to face that crowd now, but there was a time . . . Yes, we had donuts. And many street hotdogs. And do you remember when we had dinner at Mama Leone's before a show and we got seated right next to this woman who was eating alone? We tried to be nice and speak to to her and she pretended not to see us? Or our first trip to the Steinway showroom? Or—or—:) Happy New Year!
