What a difference a week makes. I have gone from "I really should keep my cha-cha under a tent so the other ladies aren't subjected to this" to "You know, I probably would've had a shot at Broadway if only I had begun my salsa career a tad earlier." (And by "earlier" I mean before I reached the age at which the old Lawrence Welk Show reruns on PBS became must-see TV. I live for the polka numbers and flashbacks with the Lennon Sisters. But I digress.) My newfound stage presence, of course, can mean only one thing: I have turned into Lucy Ricardo. Yes, just as Lucy confidently sang her off-key heart out, hoping for a big moment at the Tropicana, I have become a step-touchin', four-countin', gallopin', jumpin', and on at least one occasion whoopin' Zumba chick. I think I'm headed for the bright lights. And unlike Ricky, my husband Dave is all for it. He thinks it's hysterical when I spontaneously salsa past his recliner or burst into "This Is My Heartbeat Song" while I make us lunch (or open the takeout box it came in). And then he will say something like, "Val . . . you might need to set aside some recovery time after Zumba." What can I say? Stardom goes to my head. And before you even ask, the answer is yes—you can totally have my autograph.
When is the first signing.......I'll be there ! ! ! !

Thank you so much for the laugh that I needed this week. We're in tech rehearsals for SWEET CHARITY opening on Wed., so life is tense. Come on up and join the "Frug" ensemble!
Oh, I already have your autograph and waiting for the day to show it off.
You go Zumba-Woman!

Am I supposed to say break a leg at our age? Or is it considered prophetic now? So good to hear from you!
